When the Raja of Jhansi dies, the British place harsh conditions before letting the Raja's son, Gangadhar, take over the throne. Jhansi's Rajguru plans ahead by getting a young girl, Manu, from a neighbouring kingdom to marry Gangadhar, despite their age difference. Manu is anointed the Rani of Jhansi and her name is changed to Laxmibai (Kashish). She soon gets pregnant but the newborn child dies a few months later. Bereft, Gangadhar's health begins to fail. With no hope of a natural heir to the kingdom, Gangadhar and Laxmibai adopt a young boy, Diwakar. When Gangadhar dies, Laxmibai attempts to have Diwakar anointed the Raja. However, the British object and soon declare war on Jhansi. How Laxmibai joins forces with Tatya Tope and fights the British to death iforms the rest of the film.

Rivalry has existed between Ranimaa and a small and hostile community. The passage of time has only widened the gap between the two. When Ranimaa's heir apparent, Seema, attempts to make peace, she is severely reprimanded by Ranimaa. Then Seema meets with Ajay Jain and both fall in love. Subsequently, he starts to frequent a brothel to visit with a courtesan, Chandravati, and virtually refuses to do anything with his pregnant wife, Sheila. He even drinks alcohol, and assaults his father, Jaggannath, and brother, Sridhar. Things get even worse when he blinds his mother, lets Chandravati and her entourage move in their family home, and asks Sheila to serve the courtesan.

Widowed by the sudden passing of his wife, Superintendent of Police, Choudhry, brings up his son, Rajesh, on his own, teaches him all known good values, and when he grows up sends him to College in Bombay, and remits money to him regularly. Choudhry would like to transfer to Bombay Police, so that he can be close to his son, and then one day out of the blue, his transfer is approved, and a delighted Choudhry writes to his son to pick him from the railway station. Upon arrival in Bombay, he does not find his son at the Railway Station, but when browsing through a newspaper he sees his son's photograph - wanted for the murder of a card-sharp. Shocked and dismayed, Choudhry attempts to piece his life together and attempts to find Rajesh before the City Police do - for he may well face the death sentence. Choudhry does find him, but only after Rajesh is accused of killing a woman named Kishori, and this time Choudhry is quite sure that there is no hope for Rajesh.

He has been searching for them since 20 years, accompanied by his younger brother Prem Chopra. When he finds them, Prem Chopra tries to kill Parikshit, but all of them survive, and Parikshit takes them back to the city.
