Chandan is found dead by his twin brother Trishul, who is a dacoit. In a bid to turn a new leaf and leave the criminal life behind, Trishul assumes his brother's identity.

Rajoo (Naseeruddin Shah) is an honest, naive, villager with a heart of gold. When he comes to the big city, he comes across a beautiful young girl, Sunayana (Rameshwari), who almost gets runover by a car. He assists her to her feet, and she tells him that she is blind, lives in a small tenement with a neighbourly woman everyone calls Maushi (Leela Mishra), and sell flowers for a living. Rajoo takes it upon himself to make arrangements to ensure that Sunayana can see again. He meets with all kinds of people in this process, namely a wealthy suicidal drunk, Heeramohan (Pinchoo Kapoor); Circus owner (Mukri); Lion-tamer, Shamsher (Rajendra Nath); Prisoner Jaggoo (Jagdeep); Prisoner #204 (Viju Khote). He also meets with Dr. Indrajeet (Vijayendra Ghatge) and arranges to pay him a sum of Rs.2000/- for Sunayana's cure. Dr. Indrajeet lives with his mom (Sulochana), and sister, beautiful Sushma (Gayetri).

The story of the film revolves around four college friends went their own direction in life, but remained inseparable from each other.

When told about this incident, Shekar shakes his head with disbelief, then changes his mind when he finds out that Indu has not only being going out with another male, but also with her boss, Mr. Dutt. Shekar must now make a decision about Indu, a decision which may well bring their marriage to an end.

Samrat along with his assistant friend, Chakradhar Pandey, visits the huge estate of Mahendra Pratap Singh. As he starts investigating, he discovers lots of mysterious facts.

He is in love with a village girl, but cannot afford to pay the dowry/marriage expenses to her father. So he decides to marry Mahjubhi, while secretly harbouring the dream of saving enough money for dowry and marrying the village girl. After marrying Majubhi, Moti extracts a lot of work from her to this end. He eventually does collect the amount and divorces her, accusing her of infidelity. Shortly after that he marries the village girl, and goes back to his business of selling jaggery, but faces the consequence of losing Mahjubhi's jaggery.

Alibaba borrows money from his brother to set a slave girl free, and then finds a treasure trove that belongs to bandits. However, his brother's greed puts them in jeopardy.

Both are delighted to see other, and cannot wait to meet the others' spouse, little realizing the shock they will get when they do so.
