A. Drankov's Atelier

Lost silent film, known to be the very first film adaptation of Alexander Pushkin's tragedy of the same name, dealing with the last years of the Tsar's reign and the pretender Grigory (the false Dmitriy).

Stenka Razin is the leader of a group of outlaws who live a life of revelry and carousing along the Volga River and in the nearby forests. When Razin becomes distracted by a captured foreign princess and starts to dote on her, his men are displeased, feeling that he is neglecting them and their usual activities. Soon they come up with a plot, in the hopes of turning Razin against the princess.

Based on the novel of the same name by Nikolai Gogol. "Filming of the theater play performed by the Ukrainian troupe N. Sadovsky". Film illustration, not quite successful in mastering the classics. The film is stored in the Gosfilmofond of Russia.
