14th century. Santiago obsessed with a punishing God, on an initiatory trip on his way to Santiago de Compostela, sees his chastity and aptitude put to the test. Santiago rejects the sin of the flesh and eventually falls into a trap. He is unjustly arrested and sentenced to death.

Without these immigrants, most boats would not go to sea and the local economy paralyzed. The film recounts the difficult life on the high seas and his experiences. They are supportive men and give a lesson in life and citizenship. Not only do they send money to families, but they help orphaned children in their country to have their dignity back. In times of xenophobia and racism, they are the ones who help the development of the country where they now reside.

Part of Vale do Ave historical context, Woman of my people takes us on a journey through the textile factories and their stories. Conceição, the director's grandmother, tells her personal story, reflecting on the role of women in the factory in the social context of Vila das Aves in the sixties.
